According to The Oklahoman, interim jail administrator Tim Kinsey told the County Criminal Justice Authority on October 30 that additional staff were being brought in “just in case there’s an influx of inmates.”
In addition, that statement sparked immediate backlash. Jail trustee Rev. Derrick Scobey called the move “overt racism,” saying,
“I’ve never heard a jail administrator over that lectern in my three years say that we’re bringing in more staff because a concert is in town… It’s probably going to be about 75% African-Americans at that concert. I’m going to say it — this is overt.”
